Loudoun County was established in 1757 and sits at the base of the Blue Ridge Mountains just west of Washington D.C. This beautiful region is one-of-a-kind with its rich history, legendary equestrian heritage and country vineyards intermixed with technology, higher education and modern convenience.
During the Civil War, Union and Confederate armies marched back and forth across the county with the County's largest entanglement at the Battle of Ball’s Bluff where the Confederate army pushed the Union troops into the Potomac River in defeat. Today, residents can visit the site of the battle and national cemetery at the Ball’s Bluff Regional Park located just outside the town of Leesburg.
With the largest population of horses in Virginia and the third largest in the country, Loudoun’s designation as horse country is well founded. Small paddocks can be found in the higher density eastern part of the county and large ranches drape the rolling landscape of the western county. Residents who don’t own horses but are looking to enjoy the equestrian experience can do so at one of the many steeplechase races that are run during the Spring and Fall at Morven Park and Oatlands Plantation.
Home to more than 40 vineyards and 20 craft breweries, Loudoun County is now the state’s second largest grape producing county and the states’ leading producer of wine. Many of the wineries offer guided tours and hold special events to enhance your touring experience. Pick up a copy of the “Wine Trail” at the Loudoun County Visitors Center and spend a day or two visiting the wineries throughout the county and enjoy the scenic countryside along the way.
Loudoun is quickly becoming one of the hottest areas in the country as more and more national and international companies choose to make it home. Here you will find respected companies such as AOL, Verizon, Northrop Grumman Innovation Systems, many large government contractors and small high-tech start-up companies.
Overall, Loudoun offers something for everyone with its abundant employment opportunities, outstanding amenities and scenic and historic countryside. Discover for yourself what Loudoun has to offer and you too may soon be calling it home.
